25. Esther

For such a time as this

King Ahasuerus (Ezra 4:6) was in control when a dispute arose in Jerusalem about the rebuilding of the temple.  Esther was an orphan brought up by an older cousin during this time.  As we shall see, she played an important role in Jewish history.

A note from your Bible study mentor –

After seventy years of captivity in a foreign country, the Jews are allowed to return to their native land of Israel.

Seventy years—a lifetime. In Lesson 26, we will learn who returns to their homeland. How old were they when they were taken? How old are they now? It sounds like a completely different group of people to me. Is it a fresh start for them?

In what condition will they find their capital city? Will the temple be rebuilt? What will happen to their culture?
